Before gaps emerge
How can we safeguard local journalism in Bavaria?
Local journalism is more than just reporting. It provides context, helps shape public opinion, highlights injustices, and fosters social cohesion at the local level. The Bavarian findings of the study “Local Journalism & Democracy” clearly demonstrate this. At the same time, this is by no means a given: access to information is changing, resources are under pressure, and gaps in coverage often emerge quietly, long before they become politically visible. This panel will therefore focus on solutions: How can we sustainably secure local journalism in Bavaria before gaps emerge?
